Lodging – Transportation – Sightseeing – Questions?
LODGING
Hotels
If you’d like to stay in a hotel, we suggest staying in the University District, Eastlake or downtown.
Notes on each:
- University District – Surrounding the University of Washington campus. Tons of restaurants, very lively. Recs: Residence Inn, Graduate Seattle
- Eastlake – On Lake Union, lovely neighborhood with great views and many amenities on Eastlake. Recs: Silver Cloud Hotel
- Downtown – If you stay downtown you’ll have better access to some famous spots if you’re interested in sightseeing, namely Pike Place Market and Seattle Center (where the Space Needle is located). Conversely, it is not a neighborhood where you’ll want to walk around at night and you will be in a more touristy area. Hotel recs: Hotel Sorrento (gorgeous and historic, technically in First Hill not downtown but on the edge), Olive 8, Hyatt Regency
AirBnb / Vrbo
If you’d like to stay near our neighborhood, look in Capitol Hill, Eastlake, Wallingford, Fremont, or Montlake. There are some nice spots in the U District but also a lot of loud highway-adjacent streets, so ask us if you’d like advice.
All have AirBnb options and are also beautiful, easily accessible walking neighborhoods.
Bed and Breakfasts
Gaslight Inn, Shafer Baillie Mansion (right next to one of our favorite places, Volunteer Park), Cecil Bacon Manor (very close to us).
CITY TRANSPORTATION
We do not recommend renting a car. Parking is challenging throughout much of the city, and driving here is generally not ideal.
Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful, and we can also provide bus instructions if you’d like – feel free to text or email any questions!
- If you’re hoping to use public transit, we live right off the 49 bus line.
- The Link Light Rail is an ideal option for traveling from the airport to Seattle proper – feel free to text us to ask for public transit directions, or use Google Maps.
- If you do rent a car, there is ample street parking around our house and you will be able to park for the party.
- Seattle is also incredibly walkable, we almost never drive – and there is plenty to enjoy in any of the neighborhoods we listed!
FAVORITE SPOTS
Volunteer Park – Washington Park Arboretum – Gasworks Park – Golden Gardens – Pike Place Market – Green Lake – Seattle Art Museum – Ferry from downtown to Bainbridge Island (no car needed!) – Rent a bike and ride on the Burke Gilman
